Tarot Card Reading of the Week – August 26, 2018

The past energy (or energy we are leaving) is the Eight of Swords reversed. This is a good card to get reversed because it can indicate coming out of this “blind and bound” phase.  The blindfold comes off and now you can see.  And you are able to break free of what had you bound and tied to one place.  Since this card is sometimes referred to as a mental card, and the suit of swords can correspond to the mind and thoughts and communication,  this could have all been in your head. And you’re finally breaking free of whatever thoughts had you trapped.

The present energy is the Queen of Swords reversed.  The Ice Queen, she’s sometimes called. She can be an air sign adult female (Aquarius, Libra, Gemini) – but she doesn’t have to be. This is a woman who uses her words and her mind to hurt.  Sharp words, a sharp tongue.  So get ready for some harsh words or difficult truths coming from her this week.

The future card is the Six of Swords upright. All swords cards this week.  So a lot of thinking – a lot in the mind. This card can indicate moving from something…to something better.  On a mundane level, it can indicate travel of some sort. A trip. Or moving in any other sense of the word. Moving house, changing a job, changing where you do something (if you always run a certain route, maybe you’re running a different route, as an example).  But it’s the idea of movement from where you are (maybe not so good) to something else…and it’s better.   Again, because it’s a swords card, it could just be your thinking about something. If you’ve always thought the neighborhood you live in is not the best, maybe something happens to change your mind and you realize it’s not that bad.   So it’s a “movement of thought” about something.

We just had a Pisces Full Moon and Mars is set to go direct. One door may have closed (as full moons can signify endings or a completion to something) and now with Mars direct, we’re ready to march forward into something new.  But before we can actually do that, we have to first think it and imagine it and visualize it in our minds.

The Suit of Cups…

In the traditional tarot, the suit of cups is associated with relationships. Feelings, emotions. Love and friendship. It’s also the suit that corresponds to the water astrological signs – Pisces, Cancer, Scorpio.

When these cards present in a spread upright, they’re generally positive.  Reversed, they can indicate blockages to relationships or certain dynamic within relationships.  The court cards, in particular, are quite revealing in terms of personality type.  Water sign people upright are emotionally stable and mature. Giving and sensitive.  If they present reversed, they tend towards emotional manipulation and overall emotional immaturity.

My overall favorite suit in the deck (I have a lot of water in my chart, so I guess it makes sense),these cards have a gentle energy about them. Suggestive, perhaps, of the same energy we should have in all our relationships with others.

Tarot Card Reading of the Week – July 22, 2018

The card in the past energy (or the energy we are leaving as we begin the week) is the Page of Pentacles reversed. Pages can  be children under the age of 10-12 or people who act like children.  Pages are also messengers.  This can be an earth sign child (Virgo, Capricorn, Taurus) or a message regarding money or finances or job or career.  It’s likely either not a good message. Or it’s about something not moving forward as you’d like.  It could also just be an irresponsible person around you somehow – perhaps at the workplace. Somebody not very grounded and stable, especially with money or their responsibilities.

The present energy is the Ace of Wands reversed. Aces start a suit and the suit of wands is about action and passion. Creative ventures.  Wands also correspond to fire sign energy – Aries, Leo and Sagittarius.  Which is interesting, because we just entered Leo season.  But this card can indicate a block or delay to the start of something new – something creative or something that you are passionate about. It doesn’t mean it can’t ever happen or won’t ever happen. Just that right now, for whatever reason, the path to start this new thing is blocked.  We have a lot of planets still retrograde right now – and Mercury is set to go retrograde this coming week as well. So astrologically speaking, it really isn’t  an ideal time to start or begin new things if you can help it.

The card in the position of the future is The Chariot upright. A major arcana card.  This is a card of moving forward and charging ahead.  Being in control of the direction of things.  As a major arcana card, it can speak to a significant area of your life or a specific endeavor that is important to you.  So what was a little stagnant or unmoving at the start of the week…seems to be taking off towards the end.  Or it could be that you just regain your footing and now know the direction you want to go in. Sometimes that’s half the battle. Once you figure out which way to go, then actually going that way is easy.

Tarot Reading of the Week – March 26, 2018

The first card is The Emperor.  A major arcana card. This could be an Aries male since this is the major arcana card that corresponds to Aries.  But not necessarily. An emperor outranks a king.  This is a very commanding, in control energy. He’s not somebody you mess with or push boundaries with.  He commands respect and he gets it.

The next card is the Queen of Cups reversed. She can be a water sign (Pisces, Cancer, Scorpio) woman over 35, but not necessarily.  When the water signs present reversed, they can be manipulative. Especially when it comes to emotions.  She can also just be a woman who isn’t in control fo her emotions. Not in an angry way – more of a crying, whining sort of way.  In any case, be mindful of emotional manipulation.  Perhaps coming from or around a woman.

The last card is the Seven of Swords upright. You’re on top of this…you got this.  A bit of a struggle, but you’re standing your ground.  So if something in your life feels a little daunting or exhausting (maybe dealing with that emotional manipulation around you), don’t worry – you can handle it.  And as with all energy, good or bad, it’s temporary and will shift.

Tarot Reading of the Week – March 18, 2018

The card in the recent past, or the energy we are leaving is the Two of Cups reversed. A lack of union.  This can represent the breakup of a relationship or just this energy of not coming together in some way.  A block or delay to love, perhaps.

The card in the present energy is the Queen of Wands reversed. She can be a fire sign female (Sagittarius, Aries, Leo) over 35. Reversed, as she is here, she’s…..not a nice woman. Difficult. Demanding. Moody. Prone to angry outbursts.  If this isn’t a  person, it can just be an energy around you.  Difficult energy, lots of tension and anger.  It’s the “walking on egg shells” energy.

The card in the future is The Star. It’s a major arcana card, so it speaks louder than the other cards. This is a card of blessings. It is the “wish fulfillment” card of the major arcana (the Nine of Cups is the minor arcana wish fulfillment card).  It’s about balance and peace and…wishes coming true.

So we may be coming into the week off the heels of a failed or tense relationship.  But the  future seems to hold a wish fulfilled.  Just be mindful of the tension that may present at some point this week as well.

We’re about to enter the sign of Aries, astrologically speaking. Any time we’re at the end of a sign (or a particular planet’s energy) and about to enter another, there can be some tension.   Just the shift in energy. So in this case, it’s moving from the sensitive, watery sign of Pisces into the dynamic, motivated fire sign of Aries. We may all feel that shift in some are of our lives.

Tarot Reading of the Week – March 11, 2018

The card in the past position is the Seven of Wands reversed.  Feeling overwhelmed by something.  Not in control or in command of it.

The card in the present position is the Knight of Swords upright. Knights are about movement and action.  The suit of swords corresponds to air signs (Libra, Aquarius, Gemini) and to the mind, thinking, thoughts, communication. So this is a fast moving knight and he’s all about a quickness of thought and quick communication. He’s upright, so it’s positive.  But fast paced.

The future card is The Lovers reversed. A major arcana card that corresponds to lovers or a love relationship and also to not taking responsibility for a relationship or a certain dynamic within a relationship.   It’s reversed, so it can be a lack of love or union. If your values or ideas for the relationship are not in alignment.  Not coming together.

This week there could be a focus on relationships because the energy from The Lovers card is prominent.  But given that this is a general reading, it doesn’t have to be that way. Expect quick paced action and communication around something, though.

Tarot Reading of the Week – March 4, 2018

In the past position we have The Hermit reversed.  So an energy we are leaving or have already left is one of being a little isolated. Perhaps a bit of a recluse.  Upright, this card is about seeking solitude to gain wisdom and insight. It’s about learning and studying, but with a hint of withdrawing to gain more knowledge. Reversed, this card is about being a little too isolated.

The card in the present position is the Two of Wands reversed.  Perhaps not planning ahead very well. Or having over-looked something.  Or some necessary details. This may have been due to impatience.  So it’s almost like there was a sense of excitement and a real desire and push to move forward. But in the process of all of that, some important details and elements were left out.

The card in the position of the future is the Queen of Pentacles upright. She can be an earth sign female (Taurus, Virgo or Capricorn) over 35. But she doesn’t have to be.  It doesn’t even have to be an actual person, just the energy of the card.  So this is about having your money in order. She’s a woman who is good with her resources and good with making everything run smoothly.  Perhaps a homemaker, or somebody with a family – but she’s able to juggle her family and running the household.  And it’s all done with a nurturing and caring attitude. So she’s not ruthless about it. She’s just very organized and practical and money and time savvy.  So a good energy to end the week with.

Perhaps we learn through our lack of planning or impatience with the Two of Wands reversed how to become better organized and structured.  Or, a woman (or person) comes to our aid who is really skilled at organization and planning (and even money) and she helps us make it all work.

New Moon in Scorpio, Stellium in Scorpio – Intensity all around

On November 18, 2017 there will be a new moon in the super intense water sign of Scorpio.   New moons are generally viewed as times to start new things. They signify fresh beginnings.  Scorpio is (hands down) the most intense sign of the zodiac.  In virtually everything they do, Scorpio people have a plan and a directive. The idea of “let’s just see what happens, let’s just see where this goes,” is not anything a Scorpio would say.

Highly intuitive, secretive, seductive, not afraid of all things dark and mysterious.   They are about depth,  and getting to what is real. They are the best person to have in your corner when you need them. The worst person you wish you never knew if you slight them or make them angry.

This new moon isn’t the only activity taking place in Scorpio. We also have the sun in Scorpio right now, as well as Venus. When you have a lot of planets in one house of a chart or in one sign, it’s considered a stellium.  Given that we have all this energy in Scorpio, today (as well as a few days before and after) are probably going to be a bit intense. At least in one area of your life.  More so if you are a Scorpio or a water sign or have a lot of Scorpio or water in your chart. Fixed signs may also be affected more (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius).

One area that you  may feel this most is in the area of relationship.  Because the sun, the moon and Venus (planet of relationships and love and luxury) are there. If you want new love in your life, today may be a good time to do some manifestation work. Visualize the ideal person, and feel how wonderful they make you feel.  Whatever that means for you: safety, security, passion, friendship, companionship, fun and laughter…the list can go on and on.  If you are already in a committed relationship, this is a good time to hit the “reset” button.  If a certain aspect or area of your relationship has gone a little stale, use this energy to infuse some momentum.

I pulled a tarot card for the energy of this new moon and The High Priestess presented.   She’s my one of my favorite cards in the deck. She is an oracle – people seek her for her insight, her wisdom, her knowledge. She’s intuitive, and divinely guided.  She can also be secretive and mysterious.  This card presented upright, which is good.  Reversed, it can suggest something hidden or a secret being kept.

As a Scorpio rising, I’m looking forward to the energy of this new moon, and the doors that are soon going to open because of it.

Trip Through the Tarot – The Magician

The Magician is the first real card (key) of the major arcana. The Fool starts with the number 0. The Magician starts with the number 1.  He stands at a table with all of the tools he needs before him: a pentacle, a cup, a sword and a wand.  Those are the four minor suits of the deck.  This is a card of manifesting and creating.  Of you being the creator and making things happen.

He extends  arm up and one hand down.  In, what many refer to as the, “As above, so below” gesture.  Another, perhaps more common expression of this is, “…on earth as it is in heaven.”   Some people may recognize that as being from The Our Father.  But the idea is the same.  What is in heaven, so to shall be on earth.  The joys and the creation of heaven….can also be the joys and creation here on earth.

When this card presents upright, it can be encouraging the querent to use the tools they have (they have all the tools they need) to create. It can also suggest that somebody with this energy around them is going to come into their lives to help them manifest their dreams.

When this card presents in the reversed position….it can represent a “tortured artist” energy.  Think of great musicians who had amazing talent, but struggled with substance abuse and became depressed and sometimes even violent. Jim Morrison comes to mind.  Elvis and Kurt Cobain are two others.  So they have this gift to create music…but they aren’t using it well.  And instead of them being able to use their gift to give to others, it turns in on itself, and ultimately destroys them. Or, presents a significant struggle.

This card can also be reminding us (in the reversed position) to not manipulate. Creating and manifesting are one thing….but manipulating others is another. And it’s never advised.

I have several cards in the tarot I’m fond of, some I’m not fond of, and a lot that are neutral. This is one card that I like.   The reminder that we all have that inherent power within ourselves to create and “make” and manifest is both true and empowering.

Trip Through the Tarot…

The card that “starts” the major arcana in the traditional Rider Waite tarot is The Fool.  The deck has a major arcana and a minor arcana. The major arcana is composed of twenty two cards. The minor arcana has the four suits (Wands, Swords, Cups and Pentacles).

The major arcana is the journey of The Fool.  He starts the deck, he starts the journey.  This is a card (sometimes referred to as a “key”) that speaks to new beginnings. New journeys.  Heading off into the great unknown, with only a little rucksack and your pet companion with you.  There’s a naive energy about this card. A young, impromptu energy.  It reminds me of high school student heading off to college away from home.  Not knowing exactly what awaits them, but eager for the trip.

If this card presents in the reversed position (not all readers read reversals, I do), it can literally mean somebody is being “foolish.” Making foolish decisions or choices. Not really thinking things through at all.

You can use tarot cards in spell work and manifestation work.  If there’s a particular energy I am trying to draw in, I will go through the deck and find the card or cards that I think speak to what it is I want or am requesting help with.  I lay them out, light a candle and light some incense and ask that the energies of these cards, what they stand for, what they suggest or encourage, will be drawn to me for the specific reason I have.

You can use the major arcana (or any card for that matter) as a focus point for meditation.  You can pick a card every few days and use that as your point of attention when meditation. Not for any particular reason…just to focus on what that cards means to you. What it symbolizes. How it resonates with you. It’s a good way to become familiar with the deck and a good way to tune into how you’re resonating with those energies at that time.

When on the brink of a new adventure, a new job, a new home, a new marriage or relationship, call on this energy to guide you through your journey. You have all you need with you in your rucksack and with your pet companion.  You just need some faith to go along with it.
