Cosmic Correspondence – New Moon Solar Eclipse in Leo, Venus semi square Mercury, Mercury Retrograde, Sun in Virgo

A lot of energy going on around us. The most significant is the New Moon Solar Eclipse in the late degrees of Leo on August 21.   A fire sign, associated with self and “me.”  In contrast with Aquarius (where the south node is) who is more associated with the group and with “us.”   That opposition between self and other.

New Moons carry with them a lot of energy anyway.  Good times to start things, begin anew.  But when it is eclipsed by the moon…the energy is magnified.  It is a significant time of doors closing…so that other doors can open.  Instead of fearing that change (and that closure)…try to embrace it and welcome it.  Because on the other side of this eclipse is new, fresh energy.  The universe is always guiding us to where we need to be. Even if we can’t see it or understand it in the moment.  So be open to where you’re being led to go.

There’s a semi square between Mercury and Venus on August 20.  This can be tension and conflict with communication in relationships. A feeling of being misunderstood.  Be patient with this. Because there’s a trine between Venus and Chiron on August 23/24.  So healing is there within relationships.

Mercury is retrograde in the sign of Virgo, presently. He will go direct on September 5.  Communication problems, and delays with travel may occur now.  It’s not a good time to buy expensive things, or to sign important documents or contracts. Wait, if you can, until the second week of September.

The Sun will move from Leo into Virgo on August 22 – the day after the eclipse.   Virgo is a stable, gentle earth sign.  Known to be sometimes concerned with particulars and specifics.  So the details of our lives (day-to-day details, or details on a larger scale) may become things we are focused on. Not necessary a bad thing.  With the shift that the eclipse is bringing, it may be a good idea to spend some time working through the finer points of our lives.

A lot of shift…a lot of change. There’s usually a tendency to fear change. We sometimes associated change with giving up something. Losing something.  But that’s not always the case. And sometimes, change can bring things to us. Give us things.  The universe is encouraging us all to grow and shift and the energy with the eclipse promises to do that. For all of us, in some area of our lives.

The Space Between Eclipses – August 2017

We are currently in a space between eclipses. August 2017 will see two. We say a Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Aquarius on August 7/8. And we’re going to see a New Moon Solar Eclipse in the late degrees of Leo on August 21/22.

Full Moons are a completion of a cycle. They complete things. Culmination, accomplishment.   New Moons are a good time to start a cycle.  To begin things.  The space between….well, it’s sometimes referred to as a portal.  This can be a portal to a heightened sense of spirituality. It can also be (speaking honestly) a time of general weirdness. A lot of shifting energy. Full Moons and New Moons carry a lot of energy with them anyway. Add to that eclipse energy and they’re like Full and New moons on steroids.

So be gentle with yourself during this time.  Expect there to be a lot of shift and transformation.  And as with most shift and transformation, it may not be comfortable. That’s okay. We are all being affected by this astrology.  Best to accept it and be open to go where the universe guides you.  If some doors need to close, let them close. If it’s time to start a new chapter or turn the page…welcome that opportunity.

It’s all about growth. And growth comes with resistance and sometimes pressure and struggle.  But it’s growth that propels us forward and helps us to be the best version of ourselves we can be. That’s nothing to shy away from.  Welcome it.

Llamas – A Harvest Festival

July 31/August 1 marks the celebration of Lammas.  If you follow the Wheel of the Year, it’s a festival that marks the first harvest.  It also has some roots in the Christian faith – people would attend mass and put loaves of bread on the altar.

This is when we can see some “fruits of the harvest.” Certain fruits and vegetables are in season and ready to be picked and enjoyed. For me, it makes the middle of summer, and the reminder that autumn is on its way.

Traditional ways of celebrating this day are to make corn dollies (from corn husk) and for baking bread.   Other, perhaps less common ways to celebrate this day, are to simply give thanks for the harvest in your own life.  All that you have and all that has been given to you.  And all the things that are on their way…

Cosmic Correspondence – Full Moon in Capricorn

There’s a Full Moon at 17 degrees of Capricorn today.  And the word intense doesn’t do it justice.  It’s not only intense because of the opposing energies of Capricorn and Cancer (where the Sun is currently), but also because the moon and Pluto are opposite the sun and Mars.  This will likely affect one or some relationships in your life. Or possibly your environment.

Issues of control, manipulation, physical aggression, intimidation may present with this particular configuration.   Sun opposing Pluto can bring destruction or the break-down of something.  Pluto is all about death and rebirth.  So something falling away to rebuild. It reminds me of The Tower card in tarot.

Mars opposing Pluto can also suggest issues around aggression.  Given that Mars is about aggression, war, willpower, competition, those themes may present in your life in some way within the next few days.

The energy of a full or new moon can be felt 2-3 days before and after it is exact. So this energy may be felt for a few more days.  And it’s not suggesting you will be the victim of violence or aggression…but you may feel this energy around you.  An energy of tension. An energy of a ticking time bomb with a particular person or within a relationship.

Cancer is trying to ease this tension as best it can. But there’s a lot to deal with.  Sensitive and emotional, our reactions may tend toward bouts of crying.

This Full Moon is going to affect Capricorn people the most. If you have Capricorn as your sun sign, moon sign or rising/ascendant sign….be mindful of this energy.  The other earth signs (Virgo and Taurus) could also feel this a bit as well.  Capricorn people are also advised to pay attention to this energy and what it reveals for you because Saturn will transit your sign starting this December (2017) and will stay with you for about two and a half years.  A time of often massive shift and change, responsibility, restriction and growing up.  It’s not fun when you’re going through it, but if you learn the lessons Saturn is trying to teach you, you will emerge from it more strong and wise than you thought possible.

Full Moons are a time of completion. And also a time to let go of what no longer serves you.  Give thanks for what has come to fruition during this past moon cycle, and don’t be afraid to let go of what isn’t serving you in your life. Write down what you’d like removed from your life or what you’d like to be released from, and speak it aloud outside. Ask the universe (your guides, angels, God…) to help you let go and be released from the things you ask. Ask for peaceful transition and ask for the strength you need during the shift you’re about to experience. Then give thanks for already receiving it.  Once you ask, the wheels are set in motion, and it will be given.  Expect it and it will be yours.

Super Stone – Citrine

Sometimes referred to as “the merchant’s stone” or “the gambler’s stone,” this is a stone of good luck and prosperity.  Specifically, in terms of finances.  It’s a yellow stone that can be found in almost any witchy store and it’s usually inexpensive.  Around $1-2 per rough or tumbled (smooth) stone.  It’s also easy to find in jewelry.

This stone corresponds to the solar plexus chakra, the energy center (wheel) located in your stomach/mid section. In your gut. It speaks to your will, your character, your sense of self.  Who you are and what you are about.

Some ways to use Citrine…

  • Wear or carry it with you if you want to bring money towards you. You can keep it in your pocket, or put a small chip in your wallet or coin purse, briefcase, one of your office desk drawers.  Or in the form of jewelry.
  • I place a Citrine and an Amethyst on my laptop – where I write my blogs and where I write up readings I do for my Etsy store…as a way to encourage prosperity.  And the combination of Citrine (business success) and Amethyst (opening the third eye and crown chakras and encouraging intuition) makes sense.
  • Citrine plays well with other stones. Some good combinations are Citrine and Amethyst, Citrine and Carnelian, Citrine and Garnet, Citrine and (Clear) Quartz, Citrine and Green Adventurine. So wearing these combinations in the form of jewelry or carrying these stones in these combinations can also encourage wealth, and abundance of prosperity to come your way.
  • Keep a small Citrine cluster (these can be inexpensive as well, depending on size) on your desk or where you do business/work.  It encourages more clients/customers.
  • If you gamble, take (or wear) some citrine with you.  Or wear it when you go buy a lottery ticket.
  • You can meditate with Citrine if you’re trying to gain more insight into your character.  Finding that personal inner power and inner strength. You can rest it on your stomach (where your solar plexus is) or just hold it in your hand.
  • I (personally) think this stone is related to the Strength card in the traditional tarot.  Some people use tarot cards as a focal point for meditation or for spell work.  You may want to incorporate a piece or two of Citrine when working with the Strength card or with other cards if that resonates with you. The Sun card is another tarot card that Citrine would work nicely with.
  • If you have a prosperity altar in your home or in your witch room (or meditation space) or in your office, place a few pieces of citrine there.
  • If you follow Feng Shui, find the direction that corresponds to wealth/prosperity and place a piece or two of Citrine in that corner or area.
  • I also think this stone is connected to Leo. Leo is ruled by the sun, and Citrine is often linked to the sun, if for no other reason, that it’s a bright yellow that encourages abundance of good.  So if you are a Leo, or if you work with the sun and moon phases and signs in astrology,  you may want to think about incorporating Citrine in your practice as well.

Citrine is a very versatile stone and is easy to work with.  It encourages happiness and harmony, and good fortune.  A wealth of possibilities, indeed…

Cosmic Correspondence – Cancer Energy and Summer Solstice

The summer solstice is today. The longest  day of the year and the official start of summer (in the northern hemisphere).   And lots of Cancer energy.  The sun is now in Cancer. A sensitive water sign, family focused and gentle.   There will be a new moon in Cancer on June 24.   New moons are ideal times to start new things. They start a new moon cycle, after all.   And  just like each sign carries its own specific focus and energy, it’s best to work with this energy.  Since Cancer is family focused, it’s a good time to turn a new page with your family life. However that resonates for you – your marriage, your literal house/living space, your children, your significant family relationships.  Make a commitment to do something with the kids once a week that’s special…that’s different.  Maybe something “active” and exercise oriented.  Or something as simple as making a phone call to a favorite relative once a week.

I personally have a new moon and a full moon ritual. For new moons, I write down an area or two I want to focus on for the new moon cycle. I put the piece of paper under a candle and light some incense.  I let the candle (it’s a short taper candle) and the incense burn out completely.  And I spend a few moments in quiet focused on my new moon aspiration.  Asking for my spirit guides and angels to help me and guide me.

The types of rituals you can come up with are endless.  You could collect all the random change you find during a new moon cycle (so from new moon to full moon)  and then use it toward buying somebody a coffee treat. Or, if your’e an avid Amazon shopper, you can donate to charities with AmazonSmile.   It costs you nothing, and a portion of whatever you spend will go toward the charity of your choice. You could switch it up every month to correspond to the  sign the sun is in. An earth sign…donate to a nature focused charity. A fire sign…donate to an athletic or exercise focused charity.  An air sign…anything intellectual and centered around teaching and learning.  A water sign…family/children charities.

Find your own ritual to connect you with the moon and sun energies.  It’s a wonderful way to work in sync with moon cycles and sun cycles.  And to add a little magic to your life.

Cosmic Correspondence – Neptune Goes Retrograde

From June 16 until November 22, 2017 Neptune will be retrograde in the sign of Pisces. Neptune rules the sign of Pisces – dreamy and nebulous.  Very creative and imaginative, yet prone to delusion.

This retrograde transit may force you to leave the world of imagination and face reality. Whatever illusion you may have surrounding a particular area (or areas) of your life…this is the wake up call.  And the more illusion or delusion you’ve placed around these things…the more harsh the wake up call is going to be.

Pisces can be prone to substance abuse, a way of escaping reality. So be mindful not to delve into this form of escapism.  Remember that whatever you resist, persists.  Better to face things head on than to avoid them in a flurry of intoxication.

And because Neptune is internally focused, this may be a time when you find yourself….well….focused on yourself.  Be careful you don’t get consumed with your own worries and preoccupations or self-pity.  Having said that, this is a wonderful time for spiritual growth and development. Meditation, and “going within” for solace and greater understanding is ideal.

If you are a Pisces, or a Pisces rising or moon, you’re going to be feeling this the most. Whenever your signs ruling planet is involved in a transit, you tend to be affected by it more than others.   Again, try not to lose yourself in chemical substances or get too caught up in self-pity.  All planets go retrograde at some point, and they all go direct. So, this too shall pass.

Try to use the energy as best you can. Confront what needs to be confronted head on and in a direct way.  Retrograde transits are a good time for “re” everything.  Reviewing, revising, recalling.  Review what needs to be addressed…and address it. You’ll be stronger and wiser for doing so.

When Confronted with a Stressful Situation…

….say, “may I meet this moment fully….and may I meet it as a friend.”

A simple saying that instills a little confidence with a friendly, open approach. Life is about learning and about teaching others. Viewing experiences as opportunities to learn something from the moment and to possibly find a friend within the experience, can take the edge off.

Try it the next time you find yourself going through a stressful moment.  Be open to  whatever it may teach you.

Trip Through the Tarot – The Magician

The Magician is the first real card (key) of the major arcana. The Fool starts with the number 0. The Magician starts with the number 1.  He stands at a table with all of the tools he needs before him: a pentacle, a cup, a sword and a wand.  Those are the four minor suits of the deck.  This is a card of manifesting and creating.  Of you being the creator and making things happen.

He extends  arm up and one hand down.  In, what many refer to as the, “As above, so below” gesture.  Another, perhaps more common expression of this is, “…on earth as it is in heaven.”   Some people may recognize that as being from The Our Father.  But the idea is the same.  What is in heaven, so to shall be on earth.  The joys and the creation of heaven….can also be the joys and creation here on earth.

When this card presents upright, it can be encouraging the querent to use the tools they have (they have all the tools they need) to create. It can also suggest that somebody with this energy around them is going to come into their lives to help them manifest their dreams.

When this card presents in the reversed position….it can represent a “tortured artist” energy.  Think of great musicians who had amazing talent, but struggled with substance abuse and became depressed and sometimes even violent. Jim Morrison comes to mind.  Elvis and Kurt Cobain are two others.  So they have this gift to create music…but they aren’t using it well.  And instead of them being able to use their gift to give to others, it turns in on itself, and ultimately destroys them. Or, presents a significant struggle.

This card can also be reminding us (in the reversed position) to not manipulate. Creating and manifesting are one thing….but manipulating others is another. And it’s never advised.

I have several cards in the tarot I’m fond of, some I’m not fond of, and a lot that are neutral. This is one card that I like.   The reminder that we all have that inherent power within ourselves to create and “make” and manifest is both true and empowering.

Cosmic Correspondence – Full Moon in Sagittarius

There will be a full moon in Sagittarius tonight.  And Jupiter starts moving direct.   Lots of dynamic fire energy in the air, lots of action and movement.  This is an ideal time to give thanks for what you have accomplished since the last new moon (and in general) and to let go of what is no longer serving you.

Expect things to feel like they are “going somewhere” now.  Life may have felt stagnant the past few weeks (or, even months). Or, stuck in some way. Like car tires spinning in mud…lots of movement…but you’re not getting anywhere.   That will soon change.  You’ll get traction and a heady push from the universe to charge ahead.

This energy reminds me of The Chariot card in the tarot.  In command, and moving forward. And not moving forward at a stroll.  Charging ahead.  Use that energy to your benefit and be mindful of what you focus on.  Because things grow where your energy goes.
